Researchers from the Centre of Studies in European Union Law (CEDU-JusGov) at UMinho took part on the 18th of December in the radio program "The State of the Union" (a Europe Direct do Minho partnership, Antena Minho, Correio do Minho).
In addition to Alessandra Silveira, resident commentator for that program and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law at UMinho, this edition of the program was attended by Pedro Froufe (director of CEDU-JusGov and the Department of Public Legal Sciences at EDUM), as well as Joana Abreu (European Union law professor at EDUM and consultant to the European Commission for judicial cooperation).
In this year-end edition, stakeholders discussed the role of justice in European integration. In this sense, they addressed the role of the Court of Justice of the European Union in protecting the rights of citizens, in permanent dialogue with the courts of the different Member States, and also looked at the challenges that European justice faces, whether with regard to threats to judicial independence, whether in terms of the new e-justice paradigm.
The radio program "The State of the Union" will air on the last Wednesday of each month (the December edition was exceptionally broadcast in the penultimate week of December, due to the Christmas holiday) and aims to discuss European news . The conversation is usually moderated by Alzira Costa, coordinator of the Europe Direct Information Center in Minho, and by Paulo Monteiro, director of Rádio Antena Minho.
