Commemorative Workshop of a decade of the Master Degree on European Union Law of UMinho

It will take place next October 11, from 9:30 am to 6 pm, in the courtroom of the UMinho Law School, a commemorative workshop of a decade of existence of the Master of Law of the European Union. The initiative aims to bring together the research developed by the teachers of MDUE, as well as stimulate the creative debate of ideas through the presence of invited researchers who contributed to the history of the MDUE, especially those from the Postgraduate Program in Law at the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI, Brazil), with which the Masters Degree maintains its oldest partnership and a fruitful dual-title program.

The workshop aims to explore, under the sustainability paradigm, the role of new technologies, especially new digital technologies, in promoting sustainable development. Beyond the economic, social and environmental dimensions traditionally associated with the concept of sustainability, the idea would be to deepen the features of a concept of technological sustainability that would articulate those three dimensions in light of the current digital age. Building on an integrated and inseparable understanding of the various dimensions of sustainable development, the workshop would focus on the UN Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development as well as the Digital Agenda for Europe, seeking to unravel how the digital age can/should be placed at the service of sustainability as a paradigm of global community living in the 21st century, changing/transforming (rather than limiting) the nature of economic growth, the meaning of social inclusion and the challenge of environmental protection.

The workshop is organized by UMinho's Center for Studies in European Union Law (CEDU-JusGov) and the Graduate Program in Legal Science - PPCJ/UNIVALI, with the scientific coordination of Alessandra Silveira, Joana Abreu and Larissa. Coelho (UMinho) and Maria Cláudia Antunes (UNIVALI). The workshop is supported by FCT and PROEX CAPES.
