INTEROP - Seminar "Justice and Democracy: Fundamental Rights and Public Policy in the Digital Age"

As part of the project Jean Monnet INTEROP - "Digital Single Market as a Political Calling: Interoperability as the Way Forward", a series of seminars will be held on April 11 and 12, 2019, at UMinho's Casa do Conhecimento "Justice and Democracy: Fundamental Rights and Public Policies in the Digital Age", conducted in partnership with researchers from UNISC (University of Santa Cruz do Sul, Brazil).

INTEROP project is being developed by researchers from the Centre of Studies in European Union Law (CEDU-JusGov) of UMinho - Alessandra Silveira, Pedro Froufe, Joana Abreu and Sophie Perez - and aims, amongst other objectives, to discuss with European policymakers the meaning to be drawn for the Digital Single Market, its potentialities and weaknesses, and what to expect in terms of their achievement and their impact in the context of the Member States. More specifically, it intends to test the scope of interoperability in the most varied domains and their operability.

From the point of view of the digitization, the following topics will be discussed: "Sustainable public management and social participation before the Revolution 4.0", "Judicial activism and independence of the courts in the digital age", "Justice, democracy and digitization: perspectives".

This cycle of seminars results from a fruitful partnership between CEDU, UNISC and the University of Coruña. It is especially aimed at students of the EU Law Masters program at UMinho (which maintains a double degree protocol with UNISC) and students of UMinho's Human Rights Masters. During the event will be presented an e-book containing texts of the seminar cycle of 2018: "IV International Seminar Hispano-Luso-Brasileiro on Fundamental Rights and Public Policies", Rogério Gesta Leal/Alessandra Silveira/Carlos Aymerich Cano (coords.), Editorial Bubok, University of Coruña, 2018.

The event is transmitted by videoconference to the 2nd and 3rd cycle students of the UNDP PPGD (Brazil), in order to boost the results of the INTEROP project and give visibility to UMinho's Casa do Conhecimento.
