"The State of the Union" radio program (a Europe Direct Minho partnership, Antena Minho, Correio do Minho) on "The Single Market and Fundamental Rights"

Researchers at UMinho's CEDU-JusGov intervened last week on the radio program "O Estado da União" (a Europe Direct Minho partnership, Antena Minho, Correio do Minho). In addition to Prof. Alessandra Silveira, resident commentator of this program and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law, this edition was attended by Prof. Pedro Froufe, Director of CEDU-JusGov.

The program addressed two of the priorities of the European Commission under the chairmanship of Jean-Claude Juncker: (1) a deeper and more equitable internal market; and (2) an area of ??justice and fundamental rights based on mutual trust. The aim of the program was to provide an opportunity to clarify to the audience the role of the single market and the freedoms of movement on which it is based (people, goods, services and capital) in the development of the integration process: first, economic integration (with the recognition of fundamental rights), in order to achieve genuine political integration (through the active participation of European citizens).

The radio program "The State of the Union" aired on the last Wednesday of each month and aims to discuss the current European situation, seeking to inform and elucidate citizens on European issues relevant to their daily lives. The conversation is usually moderated by Dr. Alzira Costa, coordinator of the Europe Direct Information Center, and by Dr. Paulo Monteiro, director of the Antena Minho radio station.

The program is broadcasted via Antena Minho radio station (106.0 FM) and can be followed through the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/antenaminho/videos/1157789461040698/). It is also available in the Antena Minho podcast (http://www.antena-minho.pt/podcast.php?p=8596).
