Professors Nuno Piçarra and Sophie Perez take up their duties at the Court of Justice of the European Union (Luxembourg)
 

On 8 October in Luxembourg, Professor Nuno Piçarra (New University of Lisbon), Collaborating Member of the Centre of Studies in European Union Law (CEDU) of UMinho since its inception in 2010, having participated actively in all activities and reference publications organized by the Centre, will take up his duties as (Portuguese) Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). Professor Sophie Perez Fernandes, Lecturer at the School of Law and PhD Researcher at CEDU-JusGov at UMinho will integrate the office of the future Portuguese Judge in the ECJ as Référendaire.

Sophie Perez holds a Bachelor's, Master's and PhD in Law from EDUM. She has developed her studies in the field of European Union Law with recognized national and international merit, having  twice been awarded the Jacques Delors Prize (Best Academic Study on Community Topics), as well as the Sousa Franco Prize and the Pitta e Cunha Prize, among others. She is currently part of the Jean Monnet INTEROP "EU Digital Single Market as a Political Calling: Interoperability as the Way Forward" and the Editorial Board of UNIO - EU Law Journal and its associated Thinking & Debating Europe.

CEDU's Directorate welcomes the distinction by the European institutions of two of its most recognized Researchers, wishing them the greatest personal and professional happiness in the new phase which now starts.

A word of acknowledgment of CEDU is also due to the outgoing Judge, Professor José Luís da Cruz Vilaça, who is from Braga and an enthusiast of the research on European Union Law held at UMinho, who also during the six years of his mandate generously corresponded to all the requests addressed to him.
