The Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law of UMinho, through the INTEROP project "European Digital Single Market as a political calling: interoperability as the way forward" was invited by the Representation of the European Commission in Portugal and by Commissioner Carlos Moedas to select a group of students from Minho's Academy and speak at the conference "Democracy4.0 - The Future of Democracy in the Digital Age".

This conference - which has the High Sponsorship of the Portuguese Presidency - will take place on May 8, at the Auditorium of the Rectory of the Nova University of Lisbon, and intends to promote a broad debate among Portuguese university students on the impact of new information technologies in today's democracy.

UMinho students who are interested in participating in the conference should send a message to the electronic address democracy4.0cedu@gmail.com with their name, course and year in which they are enrolled and propose the question they would like to see answered by the members of the panel II "Digital democracy" to be held at 10:30 on May 8.

The authors of the best questions, selected by the INTEROP project members, will have the opportunity to participate in the conference (traveling assured by the European Commission) or at a distance from UMinho through Casa do Conhecimento.

The aim of the INTEROP project is to discuss with European policy makers the meaning to be drawn for the Single Digital Market, what their potential and weaknesses are, and what to expect in terms of their achievement and their impact in the context of the Member States . More specifically, it intends to test the scope of interoperability in a wide range of domains and their operation. It is composed of researchers from CEDU, namely Alessandra Silveira, Pedro Froufe, Joana Abreu and Sophie Perez.
