Pedro Froufe and Patrícia Jerónimo, CEDU's members, participate in the debate "Which democracy do we want for the European Union?"

Pedro Froufe and Patrícia Jerónimo, CEDU's members, participated in the debate "Which democracy do we want for the European Union?" which took place on May 8th , at 17:00, in Minho University Law School's Noble Auditorium.

The issue of democratizing the European political system has prominent place in the European debate. The European treaties have tried to bring together the citizens to the European political institutions. During the past decades the European Parliament, the sole directly elected organ, has seen its powers increase. But, how do the European Parliament elections contribute for the European Union?s democratization? Is there a real democratic deficit in the way how the European institutions work or are we in front of institutions legitimized by the politics they implement? Which is the relationship that should exist between citizens, States, national politics and European politics?
